Welcome James Guarini Appointed as New Music Department Chairperson

The district is pleased to welcome James Guarini as the new K-12 music department chairperson, appointed by the Board of Education at the July 9 BOE meeting. We bid farewell and thank you to former chair, Brent Chiarello, for his many years of dedication as music chair and wish him well in his new position as the Director of Fine & Performing Arts at Bethpage School District. Board President Alex Whelehan expressed her confidence in Mr. Guarini as he steps into his new position, noting that his expertise and talents will greatly benefit the students of Cold Spring Harbor.
Mr. Guarini is grateful for the warm welcome he has received thus far, noting everyone has been so friendly and helpful during his transition onboarding. He shared, “My goal as a music educator is to inspire every type of student to be self-confident and motivated to embark upon a path of lifelong learning in music.” He began his studies of Musicianship and Business at Fordham University, received his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Queens College and his Masters from Five Towns College in Music Technology. Starting in 2006, he began his teaching career at Glen Cove School District where he has remained until 2024. He loves taking the stage with jazz, blues, and rock ensembles performing in benefit concerts both internationally and across Long Island, as well as classical ensemble performances at Carnegie Hall.
In addition to his many musical pursuits, Mr. Guarini is also a big sports fan. He grew up as a student athlete with a passion for baseball and is now an avid golfer. In his spare time, Mr. Guarini loves travelling, playing games, and cooking with his wife and three children. "I am thrilled to be joining the Cold Spring Harbor family,” he shared. “Everyone I've met has been so friendly and welcoming, and I would love to express my heartfelt appreciation. I look forward to the opportunity to collaborate with you all as we continue the noble task of inspiring the next generation of musicians in Cold Spring Harbor and beyond. It is truly an honor and a pleasure to be part of such a wonderful school community."
Wishing you a warm welcome Mr. Guarini to the Cold Spring Harbor family and we look forward to meeting you and seeing the positive impact you will have on our music program.
