  • UPK Stepping Up Celebration at Goosehill....

For the first time, our UPK (Universal Pre-K) students gathered for their Stepping Up Celebrations to commemorate the program’s inaugural Pre-K classes at Goosehill and West Side School. On June 17 staff and families gathered in partnership with CSHCSD and the Huntington YMCA to mark this momentous collaboration. Thank you to our school principals, Dr. Barnes and Ms. Cosme for playing a key role in integrating UPK students into their school community. The success of this program was also due to the crucial support of the Board of Education, Superintendent Joseph Monastero, Assistant Superintendent Genevieve LaGattuta and YMCA of Long Island Executive Director Shannon Cussen. We can’t wait to see you in the hallways next year for your first year of kindergarten!

  • Corey The Dribbler visits Goosehill Teaching Character on and off the Court

Every little boy or girl has a dream, and sometimes they come true! For Corey Rich, that dream was to become a Harlem Globetrotter basketball player and the world's best ball handler. And now he brings his journey to life inspiring K-12 students to reach their goals while teaching them integrity and strong character. What he learned was that his skills were only one part of the equation to become a team player. The Globetrotters wanted a person of great character to represent the image they uphold. The coach called Corey's former teachers and coaches for references. Only after learning that he was an outstanding student with an impeccable character, a favorite teammate, a beloved friend and community leader did they call to hire him. Corey taught so many important messages to the kids. Sure, being the best dribbler in the world was an amazing accomplishment, but he was most proud that he was chosen to represent a team that honored traits of responsibility, integrity, kindness and respect. The character traits certainly sounded a lot like Goosehill school SuperHero values! Thank you to the Cultural Arts Committee for always being at the forefront of finding these fabulous programs to bring into our schools at all grade levels.

  • Honoring Parent Leaders

Superintendent Joseph Monastero hosted the annual Parent Leader Breakfast “al fresco” the morning of June 12 outside in the courtyard of District Office. He shared that other Superintendents cannot believe the number of events and programs CSH hosts each week; offerings that other districts said takes a month to accomplish. He articulated this is possible due to the volunteerism and leadership of the parent community in this school district. The degree of volunteerism is remarkable, and it does not go unnoticed. Not only do these parent groups support so many programs, but they seamlessly run themselves! Parent Leaders here are so dedicated, and the administration and staff at all building levels are so grateful for their service and commitment not only to the students, but for the appreciation they share to staff members with endless breakfasts, luncheons, cookie bakes, and most importantly…their time...
