The Exemplary Service Award

The Exemplary Service Award was presented to Valerie Massimo at the June 11 Board of Education meeting. Every year, at this time, the Board wishes to honor an employee who supports, with great distinction, our school community. The criteria for eligibility established in order to be considered for the award includes having worked in the district for at least five years, have the unanimous recommendation of the administration and the Board, and exemplify leadership and excellent character among others. Board President, Alex Whelehan, thanked Ms. Massimo for her 16 years of service as Principal of Lloyd Harbor School. She holds the record for the second longest tenure as principal since the school opened in 1935, surpassed only by the 20-year reign of George Zimmerman 1944-1964.
Unanimously, Valerie was recommended for this award by the entire administration and supported by our Board of Education for her years of dedication, commitment and devotion to the district of CSH, and for making a difference in so many children’s lives. Under your tenure leaders were born and a National Blue Ribbon School was awarded! Kids rejoiced over spirit & pajama days, field trips to Phili, Music in the Parks and NYC, Halloween parades & picnics. Classrooms were transformed with flexible furniture, a Creative Learning Lab was built and you gave birth to LHTV, HIKER values and "Words of Wisdom." A sport court, new gym floor, new entrance, a walking track and tree of hope were erected. A bond referendum passed, building security was enhanced, authors & the Little Shelter visited. Joy was created with School Bus Karaoke, Breakout Boxes, Caribou Math & Genius Hour. AND you safely re-opened school after a pandemic....to name a few!
Board of Education President, Alex Whelahan, acknowledged, “Valerie, thank you for your unwavering commitment to Lloyd Harbor School and to this community. This is one of many meetings where I have been asked to wish you well as you leave us but I sincerely hope that this remains “see you soon,” as we cherish having you around.”
Congratulations Ms. Massimo on this very distinguished award!
