STEAM + HUMANITIES = STEAMANITIES Night 2/15/2024!

It was an unforgettable night of wonder, exploration and engagement, with the perfect blend of STEAM combined with a deep dive into the Humanities! In fact, this districtwide K-8 initiative offered so many exciting booths and activities to navigate – that each family received a map to begin their quest. It was a little like Dorothy following the yellow brick road, at every turn you didn’t know what would jump out at you next? After the success of last year’s STEAM Night, the CSH administrative team knew it would be a hard act to follow. But all expectations were exceeded as our administration, teachers, staff and 100+ student volunteers ran the gamut of 31 activity centers to test participants’ imagination, knowledge and skill...along with good old-fashioned fun! These individual stations tested everyone’s curiosity, the benefit of which leads to problem solving, teamwork, and creativity in managing “how to” tasks at hand.
On the roster line-up were activities that included Storytime, Puppets, Poetry, the American Flag and a tutorial about Libby and audio/ebooks. Students explored hands-on engineering skills using Ozobots, Gears, Centrifugal Force Art, Optical Illusions, Chain Reactions, Circuit Building, Puzzles, Catapults, and Marble Runs. If you loved science, most likely you gravitated toward the Chemistry of Ice Cream booth, Slime Making, Boat Design, Volcanic Eruption and more. The fundamentals of yoga were experienced, Karaoke “Sing Your Heart Out” bellowed from the big stage in the PAC, and Paper Airplane Challenges flied high in the Field House. The Robotics team demonstrated their robot maneuvers in the New Gym to the wide-eyed wonder of our up and coming members.
The district was able to secure a grant through the CSH Educational Foundation to spearhead STEAMANITIES Night with a task force of a 19-member district technology committee led by Executive Director of Technology, Joseph Monastero. Many of the supplies purchased through the grant can be reused for future STEAMANITIES events as well as in-school technology learning. Thank you to the committee for organizing this incredible evening event for our community, and to the staff and high school students for your preparation to tap into and develop inquiry, creativity, perseverance and problem-solving skills shared with our K-8 students. Hosting a night of this magnitude took immense coordination and planning to orchestrate such a seamless evening. The concentration and determination on the faces of our youngest students, along with smiles of joy at their accomplishments were priceless. It’s safe to say – this event is here to stay, see you next year!
Another amazing #CSHUnites community event!
