Homecomimg Game Day
Thank you to everyone for coming out to support the Remembrance Bowl held at CSH on Friday, September 27. Our Seahawk football team faced off against the Bull Dogs from Island Trees stepping into the shoes for the soldiers to play “The Game That Never Happened” in 1944. What a special heartfelt tribute, as both teams were honored to listen and learn so much the evening before at the pre-game ceremony from Helen Patton (granddaughter of General George Patton) and Michelle Strauss from the Patton Foundation. As Michelle Strauss so eloquently said, “We educate through sports, and honor with remembrance.” Both teams, and both communities joined to take part in this tribute to history. Helen Patton shared a prayer card she read to both teams quoting the blessing her grandfather told to the U.S. Army soldiers in 1944. Each team member also received this prayer card to remind them of why they are playing the game the next day. “My grandfather always asked, that we do more than is required of you,” Ms. Patton said. Prior to the coin toss, a military “challenge coin handshake” was offered to various administrative participants; each received a surprise coin as they shook the hands of these honored guests. One coin will be returning to Normandy, along with two signed jerseys from both teams to be placed in the museum there.

The Remembrance Bowl To Honor, to Commemorate, to Teach History Through Sports
Certain stores in life are meant to never be forgotten, and this is one of them… What exactly is The Remembrance Bowl? Yes, it is a football game that will be played on Friday September 27 at CSH during Homecoming. But it is so much more than a game! The Varsity Boys Football Team vs. Island Trees will be hosting, playing and honoring a historical 1944 football game – “The Game That Never Happened,” (also known as the Champagne Bowl) because our soldiers were called to fight in the Battle of the Bulge. Last year, CSH was honored to be invited by Locust Valley and participate in the first ever state-side high school Remembrance Bowl revival game, with many French dignitaries in attendance.
