This part of the website will provide an overview of the skills we will be working on in our reader and writer workshops.

Reading Workshop: 

Our reading workshop is focusing on "Analyzing Themes."  Throughout this unit we will focus on writing well about reading, varying perspectives, thinking analytically, as well as linking ideas to build larger theories and interpretations.

Writing Workshop:

Our writing workshop will begin with a focus on creating a safe and comfortable environment where all writers can share their ideas and writing.  Our first unit is on Personal Narrative.  The students will begin by reflecting on personal experiences and after an initial drafting stage they will learn to take a closer look at their writing bringing forth a theme.  Through this process they will learn to tell the story from the inside out.  All writers will have the opportunity to read their classmates work and offer advice and new perspective as we grow our writing community.

In addition to our reading and writing workshops, we will continue to develop our grammar usage skills.  This includes parts of speech, punctuation, and sentence structure.  We will also practice our cursive handwriting.
