NYSPSHSAA Sportsmanship Recognition Award

At the September 10 Board of Education meeting, Athletic Director Mike Bongino was presented with the NYSPHSAA Sportsmanship Award Banner. This award recognized CSH as a shining example of a program that is dedicated to fostering an environment of respect, integrity, and fair play both on and off the athletic arena exemplifying the highest ideals of high school athletics. Mr. Bongino was honored and humbled to receive this recognition for our district. He stressed this is much more than an athletic award, it is a community award. He shared, “Sportsmanship is a yearly focus in the athletic department, holding high expectations for our athletes, coaches, and spectators. Athletics is an essential part of the educational process, and sportsmanship displayed in a competitive environment, whether winning or losing, is paramount to developing our student-athletes and culture in Cold Spring Harbor.”

Thank you to Mr. Todd Nelson, NYSPHSSA Assistant Executive Director, for visiting CSH to present this award. He shared there are 785 schools in NY state, and CSH was one of only two schools to receive the banner this year. This is the first year CSH has earned this award and the 28th year NYSPHSAA has honored deserving school districts through the Sportsmanship Promotion program. This is truly an incredible honor and speaks volumes about the students and our community!
