  • Social Issues Book Club

    Ms. Stephanie Scanlon, was very pleased with the enthusiasm and dialogue that stems from the 4th grade “Social Issues Book Club” at West Side. She shared, “This is one of their favorite reading units from Teachers College. Students are learning what’s important for their club to run well. They need to come together quickly and quietly, come prepared and ready to participate in the conversation.”

  • FOOD DRIVE - District-wide

    January 27th - February 10th Donation bins available at ALL schools, please help support our local communities in need. This food drive corresponds with the core values of our RISE Up character building initiative, which kicks off at the Cold Spring Harbor Jr/Sr. High School during the week of January 25th. The acronym RISE Up stands for Respect, Integrity, Service, Empathy, and being an Upstander; this food drive emphasizes the service component for our RISE Up initiative.

  • Poster Contest

    FLES teacher, Senora Sandra Dolisi, is proud of this group of 4th grade students who are participating in the AATSP Poster Contest. Each year, all fourth graders at Lloyd Harbor and West Side participate in a poster contest for World Language Month through the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. This organization supports the study and teaching of the Spanish and Portuguese languages.

  • Tenure Granted

    Tenure Granted - Congratulations to Sandra Rivadeneyra (tenure area of LOTE), who was granted tenure at the recommendation of the Superintendent at the January Board of Education meeting. West Side Principal, Alison Hazut, along with the Superintendent, Robert C. Fenter, the Board of Education, and administration offered congratulations with the highest of praise and support.

  • Lego Fun

    At West Side School, Principal Hazut, always hopes the students can go outside for recess, yet, there are days when it is just not possible. “We try to have fun and new indoor recess activities, and in December we were thrilled to receive over 200 Lego bags packaged and delivered for West Side kids!” Thanks to parent volunteer, Lauren Jasinski, and CSH Jr./Sr. High volunteers, individually prepared Lego bags were organized, sanitized, and donated from the community for the children to enjoy.

  • Pet Photo Contest fundraiser

    West Side School held a Pet Photo Contest fundraiser in December. The 6th Grade H.E.R.O.’s, Phoebe Talamas and Camryn Woodworth, sent out a letter to share with the community thanking everyone for their incredible generosity. They raised over $500 which was donated to Jakes Rescue Ranch, right here on Long Island.

  • David Ruch World Music Virtual Presentation

    Each year, the Cultural Arts Committee brings in fabulous programs for all the schools. This fall, both West Side and Lloyd Harbor School were pleased to welcome back Mr. David Ruch. David is an American performer and teaching artist who works with K-12 students and multi-generational audiences across much of the United States.

  • West Side Ugly Sweater contest

    Thank you to all the staff participants at West Side, for dressing in their best ugly sweater. Students had a chance to cast their votes for their favorite, and the winner this year was Ms. Pina! Congratulations! (Thank you also to Ms. Santoro Goldberg for orchestrating the school-wide slide show presentation so students could submit their vote.)
