Cooperative Learning Presentation

  • Cooperative Learning Presentation

Each group of assigned students will present an informative, analytical Power Point presentation with a creative format on a topic or topics considered by a part of one chapter in the textbook.

While students may go beyond the textbook in their consideration of this topic(s), they will have one class day (and possibly part of a second class day) to prepare for a detailed Power Point presentation offered during one full class period.

Students should exchange contact information and complete the presentation preparations on their own time.

The group will conclude the lesson with an assessment of student learning.

Students should make active use of clear, colorful maps in their PowerPoint presentations, being sure to point to key locations relevant to the presentations.  Student presenters may also want to make paper copies of maps for practice, assessment, and/or use in case the technology fails.

On the day of the presentation, the group should also submit a typed list of who did what to contribute to the group.  Individual students may earn a higher or lower grade than the group grade (based upon the 100 point rubric below) if they do substantially more or less than other members of the group.  An individual’s grade may be lowered if he/she does not fully participate at any time during the class preparation day(s) or is not attentive to the presentations of his/her own group and of other groups.

Students should have clear contingency or backup plans to be able to present in the event the technology fails and/or one or more group members are absent.  Students may want to try out their Power Points on their own time on the classroom computer prior to the day of their presentation in case the source of their Power Point (i.e. their zip-drives, email, etc.) is not compatible with the classroom computer and the file cannot be opened.  Pre-printed student packets distributed to all group members the day or two before the actual presentation - if possible - might also be a good idea.  (It is not the responsibility of the school to photocopy papers for your group, especially during the morning of your presentation.  Please make plans to photocopy these either at home or at an office supply store prior to the day of your presentation. )

Absence: Unless alternative arrangements have been made with the group to participate in the group project, students who are absent during the day(s) of preparation and/or presentation will not be graded.
